Second Annual Nationwide Mountain Climbing Event to Help Fight Cancer
4 April 2007 – Gainesville, FL – The
Climb For Cancer Foundation
announces its second annual nationwide mountain climbing event on
June
23, 2007 to raise funds in order to help in the fight against cancer. The
event, known as "50-50-1" will include climbing teams
in all 50 states in the US, scaling the highest peak in each state
on the same day. Each team will raise money in their area, which
will in turn help to fund important research to find a cure for
cancer, provide patient support services, and give a child with
cancer the opportunity to attend Camp Sunshine. 50-50-1 stands for
50 states, 50 peaks, one goal.
Last year’s event raised more than $90,000, which in turn
was donated to major cancer centers and two different camps for
children with cancer.
Ron Farb, one of the founders of the Climb For Cancer Foundation,
is proud of the accomplishments of last year’s “50-50-1”
event, but hopes to raise even more money to fight the disease this
year. “Last year was a great success in that we were, at least
to my knowledge, the first group to ever put 48 teams on the highest
peaks in the US all on the same day,” explains Farb. “The
other two peaks were reached over the next two days due to their
difficulty. The point is, we have a great opportunity as a nation
to join together and raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to fight
cancer, all while enjoying the beauty of this great land. I think
this year we will see our fundraising reach new heights because
I think more and more people are realizing they too can make a difference.”
The Climb For Cancer Foundation was started by Ron and Dianne Farb
to combine Ron's love for mountain climbing with their desire to
see an end to cancer. The Foundation acquires sponsors and donations
in support of their mountain climbing expeditions, and then uses
the money raised to help fund cancer research and support services.
Ron has climbed five of the seven summits, the highest peaks on
each continent, raising more than $500,000 in the past few years.
